I’ll admit…Valentine’s Day isn’t really my favorite holiday. It’s this weird double-edged sword, ya know? If you’re single you curse every happy relationship while you binge eat chocolate and drink too much wine while watching some sappy rom-com. If you’re in a relationship, there’s so much pressure for it to be perfect that you constantly overanalyze everything your significant other says or does, all while eating an overpriced meal at an overpacked restaurant.

However you spend your day, chances are you’ll still want to look somewhat like a human. More specifically, if you’re like me, you’ll spend way too much time doing your makeup, only to end up being that girl drinking wine alone in her bed. Either way, I get it. It feels good to feel good. Now is not the time for my “you’re more than your image” rant, because even I know that when you feel like you look good, everything else just goes so much better.

So, I’ll leave you with this: more pictures of my face where I’m wearing way more makeup than your average college girl but loving every second of it…because it feels good.

Are you guys surprised this isn’t a warm-toned red look?! Because I am… Surprise! I can be versatile when I need to be! I figured I’d go with the cliché pink tones but still add my own dramatic twist because as you all know, I’m just a little extra 😉

I got the Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette and as soon as I opened it I was inspired by this pink-y purple shimmer shade called Paranoia. It’s perfect because its not too pink to the point that it’s unwearable – in other words, you don’t feel like Barbie pink has thrown up all over your face. Great visual, you’re welcome.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with different eyeshadow styles and techniques, this one is called a Halo Eye. Basically, you keep a darker color concentrated on the inner and outer corners of your eyes while you put a bold/shimmer/light/different color in between the two. I’m not sure exactly who named this because I feel 100% less angelic than normal whenever I wear this technique. I pretty much just end up feeling like a total badass who has some clue of what she’s doing with her face.

Because I’m all about drama, you guys know that I had to take it up a couple notches and keep the darker tones in deep purples, namely Eggplant and Plum from the Lorac Pro 2 Palette.

How to create a simple Halo eye:

  1. Prime!!! I can’t stress this enough. If you want your eyeshadow to last and not crease, you have to prime the lid. I used a concealer and set it with a flesh colored shadow to cancel out any discoloration on my lids and get everything else ready.
  2. Transition shade: aka the lifesaver step. Take any medium shade – I always use some kind of peachy/neutral brown – and sweep it all in your crease and a little above it. This just makes everything blend out easier so you’re not stuck in front of the mirror for hours. Unless that’s your thing.
  3. Pick your shade for the inner and outer corners: I always end up going with a darker, more matte shade than I want in the middle, but you can use anything you want. Build the color up until it is as intense as you want. You have the option of connecting the two sides through the crease, but that’s up to you! (I’m pretty sure this is where the “halo” idea comes from). Just make sure you leave a blank space in the middle of the lid!
  4. For the middle color, pick something that either compliments or contrasts your corner shades. I love putting shimmery metallics in the middle because it makes the eyes seem so much bigger and more dimensional. Pro tip* If you want your metallic to really pop, get your brush wet and then pat the shadow down on your lid! It will give it the most beautiful reflect and intensity.
  5. Finally, you just have to blend it all out. Halo eyes aren’t necessarily as blended as other eye looks, just because you want to get the definition of actually having a bolder color in the middle. Just make sure you don’t have literal lines dividing your eye because that looks good on no one, sorry!

Of course I added winged liner and lashes because I can’t help myself. But this is the general idea of it all. You can see the separate colors but they’re still somewhat blended – ignore my left eye okay, I’m not perfect.

*p.s. is anyone else’s favorite body part their collarbone? please let me know that I’m not the only one*

So, no matter how you spend your Valentine’s Day, just know that you are loved by someone on this earth! Whether it’s your mom, dad, boyfriend, girlfriend, sister’s cat… you’re someone’s reason to smile and that’s a really powerful thing. Sometimes we get so caught up in who “loves” us that we seek that validation from another person. Right now, I want you to know that it is more than okay to just love yourself. Love the freckles on your chest, the way your top lip is bigger than your bottom, even love the way your thighs touch when you sit down. It’s OKAY to think you’re pretty. It’s OKAY to feel good about yourself when the world wants you to feel shitty. It’s OKAY to be so happy in your own skin that people’s words don’t mean a thing to you.

In the wise words of one of my favorite drag queens, Jinx Monsoon, its all water off a duck’s back

This Valentine’s Day I challenge you all to love those around you, but remember that you need to love yourself too. Treat yourself to another piece of cake, give yourself an extra compliment in the morning, and go throughout your day knowing that you are love.

Summer is here!

Can I just tell you all how much I’ve missed this?!?!? With school and everything else going on I had zero time to put into this and I definitely didn’t want that to happen. But I’m also not gonna half-ass something I love so much because that’s not me, not at all. After finally getting some time and being super inspired by summer colors, I decided it was now or never. I fell in love with this look I found on Pinterest and even though I have nothing on this gorgeous model, the makeup didn’t come out half bad.

I’m seriously thinking about starting up my Youtube channel again, so if any of you would like that to come back, please let me know! I’m still not sure what people want to see – tutorial based posts with in-depth steps, or just an overview of what I used & where. So once again guys, let me know!!! So much of this is based off of feedback I get from people so I really depend on your opinions!

Face Products:

  • Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone
  • Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation shade 3W1 Tawny
  • Maybelline Master Conceal Concealer shade 10 Fair
  • Loreal Hydra Perfecte Translucent Powder
  • Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronzing Powder shade 5 Bali Brown & Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
  • Sonia Kashuk Arabian Dreams Sahara Sunset Highlighter

If you can’t tell, I’m a little more obsessed with highlighter/glow than I ever was before. Something about it just screams summer time to me! Skin has a natural luminosity so I love products that mimic that. The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector is an absolute must for me! I swear it helps your makeup stay on longer and it gives the most natural “glow from within” look you could imagine.

Eye Products:

  • MAC Prolongwear Paint Pot in Soft Ochre
  • Lorac eyeshadow in Buff – all over lid
  • Bobbi Brown Bronzer – upper crease
  • Lorac eyeshadow in Gold – buffed in crease and outer lid
  • Lorac eyeshadow in White – brow bone highlight
  • MAC Pigment in Vanilla – inner corner highlight
  • Loreal Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner in Black
  • Stila Glamoureyes Mascara
  • Brow Art 23 powder in Taupe : Any kind of brow powder would be fine. The brows are meant to look more natural and less sculpted than I usually prefer them. However, I don’t recommend the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow powder, there isn’t enough color payoff for the price

Lip Products:

  • Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Candy
  • Revlon Moon Drops Lipstick in Hot Coral

You could use either a hot pink or coral for this look, or really any lipstick color you’re comfortable with. But, you know me, I like to make things complicated so I layered both on top of each other.

I hope you guys like this look half as much as I liked putting it together! I swear I’ll be better about posting on this! I didn’t realize how much I would miss it & talking to all of you! As always, thank you so much for your support and for those that keep reading these posts and sharing them. It honestly means so much to me that I’m able to share some of what I know with you! Let me know if there’s anything you would like to see next!

The other day I got the chance to do my gorgeous friend Nicole’s makeup. I’m waaaaaay more confident in my ability to do my own makeup so I was naturally a bit nervous. However, I was pretty obsessed with the way it all turned out. It’s no surprise I grabbed the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette… I really can’t put this thing down. The colors are so warm and easy to blend that it is literally impossible for me to stay away.

As you can see Nicole has pretty darn flawless skin and RIDICULOUS eyes/cheekbones. For someone like me, it’s so exciting being able to play up someone’s features so naturally I was over the moon to enhance her already beautiful face. The eye technique I used (darker matte colors in the outer/inner corner and shimmer in the center) gives the eye dimension and makes them appear bigger/more awake. This is a great tool to use if you want to play up your eyes for any occasion with almost no effort.

Who doesn’t love chocolate?! Who doesn’t love makeup?! Who doesn’t love chocolate AND makeup?! Finally the makeup gods at Too Faced have graced my eyelids. I’m probably the last person in the world to have tried the Chocolate Bar palette, but it was definitely worth the wait. Safe to say I’m beyond obsessed. Not only are the colors gorgeous, but it legitimately smells like chocolate. Come on now, what girl wouldn’t be in love?

If you don’t feel like spending the $49 on the palette, do yourself a favor and stop by Sephora just to smell the darn thing

Check out my instagram, I post on there almost daily! Aleixsdecarufel_makeup

2 days into my “7 Days of Christmas” and I skip two whole days…forgive me! I’ve had so many things going on! Saturday was my 3 year anniversary with my boyfriend so we had to celebrate! Between the beach, dinner, and Christmas party I just didn’t have time to blog, but I did miss it!

So…this is Jack! I know he’s gorgeous, but he’s mine so don’t get any ideas! If there’s any advice I could give to anyone, date your best friend! It’s been working out quite well for us so far 🙂

We spent the day at the beach and it was the absolute perfect day for it! Views like this make me so thankful to live in Florida

FullSizeRender FullSizeRender copy

I’ve never been one to buy actual bathing suit cover ups, so I try to keep it cute and simple. I paired an orange crop top with a scalloped hem with my favorite white high-waisted shorts. And of course, the loves of my life, my orange and red Ray-bans

After the beach, Jack and I had a fantastic dinner at a cute little bistro overlooking the river. The waitress surprised us with dessert and a card signed by the whole restaurant!

To finish the night off, I stopped by my best friend’s Christmas party. Crazy to believe Sara and I have been friends for 9 years already…. hold onto the good one’s guys, they’re too few and far between!

Sunday was a relaxing day with my dad, watching football and cooking dinner. Together we made this slow-cooking chicken with kale (and probably 15 other things). It was a delicious meal perfect for cold nights! If you have a dutch oven I really suggest just throwing things in it and setting it in the oven for a few hours. Basically a fool-proof dinner that won’t disappoint. IMG_8882 IMG_8883

If anyone has a Francesca’s near them, please go now!!! They have the cutest last minute gifts for the holidays (like this mug!) Rarely do I ever go inside without finding something absolutely adorable. They always have tons of sales and deals!

For all of my fellow Beyoncè lovers, hopefully you can understand how hard it was walking away from this

IMG_8885I finally did another holiday look, completely inspired by Christmas trees! While I love the classic glitter, winged liner, and red lipstick, it tends to get a little overdone. So, naturally, I just grabbed a bold color and did whatever came to mind. Using Morphe Brushes eyeshadows and MAC Fix+ I created this green liner look. It’s fun and festive while still being wearable. I don’t know about you, but I’ll take any excuse to wear a colored winged liner!

IMG_8899  IMG_8896

If you’re looking for pigmented eyeshadows for a good price, check out morphebrushes.com! They have a ton of great products and good prices. The sales they have are unbeatable. The brush I used for this eyeliner only cost me 89 cents! I highly recommend this for anyone who loves makeup but doesn’t want to spend a fortune.

As always, thank you for reading! Have a great evening and I’ll talk to you all soon!

Today I created a look (almost) entirely using the Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette and absolutely loved it! Instead of going for a heavy wing like normal, I winged out the eyeshadow itself and added a small black wing for a little bit extra. There’s no way I could have gotten rid of the black winged liner completely ya know…

I’ve been loving shimmery lids, and just shimmer in general so if you keep up with me you’ll be seeing that a lot in the near future! Let me know if you have any questions!

Also, as always, please follow me on my instagram (alexisdecarufel_makeup). Sometimes I’ll post things on there that I won’t do full blogs on so feel free to look! Thanks so much for reading 🙂

DSC_0779  I also recently picked up the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal ($38) and it is beyond gorgeous. If I didn’t already over do it on the highlighter, you better believe I am now!

Okay so I’m probably the worst blogger out there since I haven’t posted in such a long time…

I definitely missed it and I really need to make more of an effort to do this regularly! So if any of you have wondered what I’ve been up to it’s just been school! Any students out there know how time consuming classes are, but I definitely need to keep this up! It’s my happy place 🙂

A couple weeks ago I did makeup on my gorgeous friend Kristen. I’ve always been a little shaky with makeup on other people, but I really love how this one turned out! Hope you guys like it 🙂

She’s gorgeous right?! Even without makeup

  • First, I put some tape from the corner of her eye up to the tail of her eyebrow. This ensures a clean line and an easy guide when it comes time to add the eyeliner.
  • With a Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Lavender, I covered the lid and blended it out with my finger. To deepen the color, I added a medium shade purple all over the lid.DSC_1755DSC_1761
  • With the colors Plum and Charcoal from Lorac, I deepened up the outer corners just a little bit. Make sure not to go too far into the middle of the eye with the darker colors, you still want to have some light peeking through.
  • Next, peel off the tape to reveal that crisp line!
  • DSC_1778

    • All I did here was add some brown eyeliner with a slight wing, I really wanted the eyeshadow to speak for itself in this look.
    • To add a little drama to the lower lash line, I used a bit of the Plum shade and smoked it out just a tiny bit

    • Excuse me while I obsess over Kristen’s skin… it’s FLAWLESS!
    • To emphasize her already perfect skin, I added a generous amount of MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle just along the high points of the face
    • For a little color I dusted MAC blush in Melba over the apples of the cheek DSC_1782 DSC_1783

This purple just looks absolutely amazing with her green eyes, it makes them pop even more! I hope you guys like this look and try it out! It’s really super easy and will look great on those with fairer skin. If you have green eyes you REALLY need to give this a shot, I promise you’ll love the results

Thanks for reading, I’ll be posting more soon 🙂

Hello beautiful people! Gosh I’ve missed this! I’ve  been so busy with school starting that I didn’t even have time to blog, so sorry 🙂

Since tons of people are going back to school I filmed a quick “Back to School” get ready with me video up on my channel! I’ll show ya’ll what I used on here and some pictures, but once again, it’s so much easier to watch on a video!

    image 3

Since it’s been SOOOOO hot and humid outside I’ve been trying to stay away from heavy foundations and stick with tinted moisturizers. Recently I’ve been loving Stila’s Sheer Color tinted moisturizer in shade fair ($34). I’ve never been a fan of tinted moisturizers because I always wanted more coverage, but lately I can’t get enough of the stuff! It’s just perfect for this cruel Florida weather.

In my last video I wasn’t sure if I loved the Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner, but that’s totally changed too! I haven’t touched anything else for the past week or so. It’s the blackest liner I’ve used and it does not move. I repeat: IT DOESN’T MOVE. Honest to goodness I have to scrub my eyes to get this stuff off… Some people might not love that, but I can’t stand when my eyeliner runs down my face and this stuff stays put for as long as you could possibly need.

    Products used:

Revlon Photo Ready Perfecting Primer $13.99

Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer in Fair $34

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Brightening $9.99

Maybelline Fit Me Pressed Powder in 330 Toffee $7.99

MAC Studio Careblend Pressed Powder in Light $26

Sonia Kashuk Creme Blush in Petal $9.79

MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle $32

    MAC Fix+ $22

Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer $21

Urban Decay Eyeshadow in W.O.S and Naked $18

    Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner $24

    Stila Glamoureyes Mascara $22

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Chocolate $21

FYI: In case you were wondering, this is what I go through just to put one of these things up…

And if your day’s going bad, just remember I stepped on my eyeshadow primer and got it everywhere…

***Don’t kill me Eric, it’s funny

If you haven’t heard of EgraceB, chances are you’re living under a rock in the middle of nowhere… For those of you that know, she has been a very dear friend of mine for three years now. Among the many things that stand out about her are her love of all things gold and maroon which is what inspired this look. She wears a signature cat eye almost daily just to prove she’s a classy girl but watch out for her attitude cus it could kill.

This look is super simple to achieve while looking like you’ve spent hours on your makeup. The eyes are composed of three shades and eyeliner and can all be done using your finger. How easy is that?! The hardest part is the eyeliner, which to this day I still have trouble with. I’d definitely classify this as a night time look, but if you’re feeling bold wear it all day long.

I used both the Lorac Pro and Pro 2 Palette for this look ($42). From left to right the shades are: Garnet, Cool Grey, and Gold. I used these just because I had them, but any brand will work just fine. However, if you’re looking for a great palette to start off with, I’d definitely purchase one of these. You get 16 shades, 8 matte and 8 shimmer and they blend great together.

As you can see in the photo of the makeup above, I first put the grey shade in my crease and blended it out. Next, taking my finger and patting it in the gold, I placed that all over the lid. With shimmery shades I always find it best to use your finger because I find that leaves you with the best color payoff. Last, I took the garnet color and placed it on the outer third of my eye with my finger. Once all the colors were down, I took a medium size fluffy brush and blended it all out.

DO NOT pay attention to the eyebrows, I think I need to get them done soon…

As always, just put on your favorite mascara and do the rest of your face makeup! I contoured quite a bit just because it added drama to the look.

Sticking with the EgraceB theme, I added a dark berry lip color to tie everything together. The specific color is Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Shame ($22).
