So, here we are, my final fall finals week of college (god, even saying that is stressing me out). I have four tests, two papers, and an internship to balance but all I can seem to think about is Chick-fil-a and my incurable Starbucks addition. Naturally, in a way to procrastinate even more than I’m comfortable admitting, I grabbed some new products and decided to play around. I’m sure a ton of you are familiar with the brand ColourPop -ya know, the sister company of Kylie Cosmetics…? I’ve been obsessed with their lipsticks for months now and I finally decided to order some eyeshadows and highlighters & WOW GUYS. Seriously, these things are pigmented, creamy, and probably the most blendable shadows I’ve ever used.

Oh, and they’re hella cheap which makes them great when you’re a broke college student who already spends too much money on makeup 🙂 So, in case you were wondering, here’s what I ordered! eye_shadow_kit-_fall_2016_2_1024x1024

This is called the Zingara pack and it comes with Paradox, Elixir, Seeker, and Jinxie, all for just $18! Honestly this just reminded me 0f a huge glass of sangria so it was absolutely necessary that I purchased this. Elixir, the terracotta shade, is probably one of the most gorgeous mid-tone orange colors I have ever seen. Basically, what I’m saying is that you need to spend the money on these shadows people!!! Separately, they’re $5 each and come in different finishes that go from matte to metallic. Each one has a unique texture thats somewhere between mouse and creme but you’d need to touch one in order to know what I’m talking about.

I also decided to get two highlighters and two Lippie Stix which are also freaking incredible. The best part is that I only spent $42 dollars on all of this stuff…including shipping.

The highlighter I used on my cheekbone and inner corner in this photo is called Wisp & it’s  probably the prettiest champagne gold/silver I’ve ever seen. It literally makes you look like you’re glowing and I mean who doesn’t want that?

Basically, I just put a light orange color in the crease – I think Orange Soda from Anastasia Beverly Hills ($12) – and then used my finger and put Elixir all over the lid and ta-da! I didn’t feel like doing a wing because 1) I’m lazy and 2) I love the color so much I didn’t wanna hide it at all.

All I did was my normal makeup routine: brows, bronzer, blush, highlight, and lips! Okay, I know that sounds like a lot, but when you’re trying to hide from your responsibilities it doesn’t seem like enough. I could probably do my makeup for 3 hours and still figure out more things to plaster all over my skin, but that really shouldn’t be surprising by now.

And just to be clear: I don’t do this because I hate how I look without makeup. I’ve always been obsessed with creative things ever since I was little and since I have 0 artistic abilities with pen and paper, this is the closest thing I get to art, alright? Of course I have days where I’m insecure and want to hide an annoying pimple, but most days I just love to stand in front of the mirror and create new shapes and color palettes on my face.

People oftentimes think girls do their makeup to impress other people but lemme tell ya what… that’s not the case at all. I don’t remember the last time I wore my favorite grey-toned lipstick and got a compliment from a single person. But you know something? IT’S OKAY!!! Art is an expression of yourself and as long as you’re happy and content with what you’re doing, validation from others kind of just slips to the wayside and disappears. Of course I love when people admire what I do, but I don’t need it in order to be happy with myself. I think that’s a HUGE thing for a lot of girls to understand in today’s society. So many people are in desperation for validation, compliments, or even recognition that they think without it they are nothing. Well, I’m here to tell you ladies that no matter how many times people say your black lipstick looks bad, if you like it then you should wear it however often you want. {I may be biased towards black lipstick, but I mean who doesn’t want to feel like a cross between cat-woman and Avril Lavigne? No one? Just me? Okay, fair enough.}

Anyway guys, if you take away anything from this just know that A) it’s perfectly okay to do things for yourself even if other people don’t like them, B) Yes, it’s also okay to spend 45 minutes taking photos of yourself in order to get the best possible angle for your highlight, and C) Do whatever it is you do with so much passion and love that other people see it and want to become just as passionate as you are.

Until next time xoxo

P.S. It’s also okay to absolutely LOVE parts about yourself and its even more okay to want to showcase what you love. For me, it’s my eyes and lips so here they are in their full glory. Lemme know what you love about yourself!!! Let’s spread the self-love today 🙂

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

After this palette FINALLY being in stock at Ulta (I honestly went to go buy this about 12 times before they restocked) I cannot stay away from it. Those colors, I mean COME ON. If you haven’t tried any of Anastasia’s eyeshadows, I urge you to immediately go out and make the investment. Yes, they can be a little pricey, but then again, so are those delicious acai bowls I love but you don’t see me saying I won’t eat them again…

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette $42

Seriously…I mean SERIOUSLY?!? If this doesn’t remind you of playing in piles of autumn leaves you either a) didn’t have a childhood, b) live in Florida like me, or c) have a seriously warped vision of fall. Either way, bottom line is that this thing is absolutely g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s and you should 100% have it in your life.  Oh, and did I mention how ridiculously easy these shadows are to blend?! Gone are the days of sitting in front of the mirror, fluffy brush in hand, praying for the moment your perfect transition shade fades seamlessly into your crease.

Now, for this look I couldn’t possibly take all the credit. If you’ve ever sat for hours in front of your computer drooling over makeup tutorials, you know that those perfectly created masterpieces tend to spark a little creative interest within yourself. This look came after watching Chrisspy’s tutorial on a look created with the Modern Renaissance shadows. Honestly, I highly recommend binge-watching her videos over the latest Netflix fad. Here, really, take a look for yourself: Chrisspy YouTube

Flash forward about 2 hours later: here I am with a look inspired by Chrisspy’s; it might’ve taken 3 lipstick changes, half a pan of MAC’s Soft & Gentle highlighter, and one intense dance break after finally applying the lashes just right, this is what we get.

So you don’t have to listen to me ramble for the hundredth time about how to blend your transition shade or how Benefit’s Hula Bronzer is the eighth wonder of the world, I’ll link her video here so you can watch a real professional (and not just the one I like to pretend to be). Chrisspy Modern Renaissance

I know, she’s stunning… it doesn’t get any easier to walk in front of your own mirror after seeing her face transform into the superhuman she is… even after your 12th video straight. Anyways, that’s besides the point.

Right now, I’m pretending there’s an actual sunset right in front of me, I’m sitting on my back porch in West Virginia watching the last of the autumn leaves change with a gigantic mug of apple cider. When in reality, I’m sitting in yesterday’s leggings with a full face of makeup for tomorrow’s post, dreading going to my French class. Makeup can take you places people!

So, whether you’re content with where you’re at in this exact moment or yearning for an escape to your favorite getaway, the point is simple: Makeup can give you a quick break from your reality and whisk you away to your happy place. At least that’s the relief it gives me, and today, that’s a thing to be thankful for.

****please go follow my Instagram account @riannajamesmua!! It would mean so so much to me **** follow me on Instagram!

May your foundation match your neck, your concealer be creaseless, & your eyeliner so sharp it could cut a man. Amen.

As upsetting as the title of this post is to my mom, it definitely makes me smile. Totally feel like I’m rockin the 2014 era Kylie Jenner lip – two years later and it’s still my favorite. Original, I know. But the point of this all is that makeup is supposed to be what makes YOU happy!!! How cool is it that we get to literally create something on our face every day?!  The one thing that I constantly find myself falling in love with about makeup is the fact that there are no rules. Of course there are trends, I mean who doesn’t love a deep burgundy lip in the fall?? But you can go from wearing black lipstick one day to drawing on the freckles you always wanted the next and it is perfectly fine.

if you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right

The best thing about this eye makeup look is that it takes about 2 minutes and uses 2 colors.. how much easier could it get?

Naturally, I went back to something I’ve loved for two years – the Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette. This is an incredible palette to have on hand at any time – it has a great mix of warms and neutrals with the perfect balance of matte to shimmer shades. Here’s what I did (in I kid you not, 2 minutes):

  • Grab a big fluffy brush and dust Peanut Butter all throughout the crease. You can take this color as high as you want – I have hooded eyes so I like to bring it up past my natural crease in order to see the color when I’m looking straight on.
  • Next, I just took my finger, dipped it into this beautiful shimmer champagne color called Butter Pecan and placed it on the inner 2/3 of my eye.
  • To blend it all a little better, I grabbed the same fluffy brush and with no extra product blended back and forth on the outer portion of my eye to get a gradient going from brown to gold.

I swear anyone can do this!! So many makeup looks people post are absolutely stunning, but it can get a bit difficult for the every day girl to try and recreate a look using 13 shadows, lashes, liner, and pigments. I’m all about being a little out there (I don’t think you’ll find someone who likes grey-toned lipsticks more than I do) but something like this is so much easier for every day wear.

While I L O V E liquid matte lipsticks more than half the things on this planet, they can get a little messy and take me a good 5 minutes to apply precisely. To get my perfect King Kylie shade, I took a MAC Cosmetics lipliner in the color Boldly Bare (by the way, 10/10 highly reccomend) and applied it all over my lips. Not only has this bad guy stayed perfectly in place all day, it doesn’t transfer onto any cups/food which is a huge bonus.

I’m always open to hearing suggestions on what you guys would want to see, so don’t ever be afraid to reach out! Again, please click the link at the top and follow my instagram account and keep checking back in here to see what I post next!!

XOXO lex

Today I created a look (almost) entirely using the Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette and absolutely loved it! Instead of going for a heavy wing like normal, I winged out the eyeshadow itself and added a small black wing for a little bit extra. There’s no way I could have gotten rid of the black winged liner completely ya know…

I’ve been loving shimmery lids, and just shimmer in general so if you keep up with me you’ll be seeing that a lot in the near future! Let me know if you have any questions!

Also, as always, please follow me on my instagram (alexisdecarufel_makeup). Sometimes I’ll post things on there that I won’t do full blogs on so feel free to look! Thanks so much for reading 🙂

Over the past few months I’ve stocked up on some gorgeous new products that need to be shared! I know it looks like a ton of things but don’t think I bought them all at once! There are some amazing things in this haul so take a look 🙂

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brush #12 $18: This brush is the perfect size and stiffness to get clean lines on your brows without going too heavy-handed. The spooly on the other end is perfect for keeping your brows clean

  • Milani Brow Shaping Clear Gel $4.49: This clear gel locks the brows in place so they stay put all day long. There are tons of more expensive versions, but this one works perfectly fine for almost 1/3 of the cost

  • Milani Brow & Eye Highlighter 02 $6.49: Run this along the top and bottom of the brows when you’re done to reveal crisp, clean edges to make the brows look even bolder

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade (Chocolate) $18): Sadly this is one product I’ve been disappointed with… I waited months for my shade to come in but I definitely prefer the Brow Wiz pencil. The color stays on forever but I feel that it’s way too easy to overdo the eyebrows to the point that they look “painted on”. This could totally be my fault, but it really does take a lot of practice and patience I don’t have on a day-to-day basis

  • L’Oreal Infallible Super Slim Eyeliner (Black) $8.95: This felt tip eyeliner pen is pretty standard. Nothing too wonderful or amazing, but it does give a thin line that some of the fatter tipped pens do not

  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette $58: For months I’ve wanted these blushes, or any Hourglass product for that matter. I’ve heard they give you a “glow from within” and oh my Lord that’s exactly what they do! They are all absolutely gorgeous on the skin and stay for hours. The blushes do not look glittery or chunky on the skin like some can, but they definitely give the cheeks some dimension and life

  • MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot (Soft Ochre) $21: Pretty standard in the makeup world. The best thing about this eyeshadow primer is that it conceals all the redness and veins in eyelids while priming for eyeshadow. The shadow will last all day and not crease if you use this product. Also great for sculpting out the bottom of the brows!

  • MAC Eyeshadow (Shroom) $16: This satin eyeshadow gives a gorgeous highlight on the brow bone and inner corner. It is not too shimmery or glittery, but rather light reflective. Pairs beautifully with almost any look on any skin tone

  • Bare Minerals Well Rested Concealer $18: This powder concealer brightens up the under eye area rather well. I found that it does crease on me if I use it by myself. The trick to fix this is to use a small amount of regular face powder right under the eye before applying the Bare Minerals powder. It has a little bit of a satin finish so there will be a tiny bit of iridescence but nothing overwhelming

  • Kat Von D Tattoo Lock It Foundation (46 Light) $34: HOLY GRAIL!!! I bought this on a whim just out of curiosity (and love for Kat) but OH MY GOD you need this in your life! Out of any foundation I’ve ever used this one is my favorite of all time. I honestly don’t know how anything will top it. You can use only one pump to completely conceal any redness or discoloration on your entire face. It’s lightweight while being full coverage which is something very rare in foundation. It stays put for literally 24 hours without having to be retouched. If you’re looking for a new product, this is the one to buy. I can’t stress it enough, it is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

  • Sephora Collection Pro Airbrush #55 $34: As far as brushes go, this one is pretty amazing for being a Sephora brand. It blends the foundation seamlessly into the skin and removes any excess product to avoid that awful cake face we’ve all fell victim to

  • NYX Lip Products
    • Slim Lip Pencil (Nude Pink & Nude Beige $3.50: Long lasting and pigmented for the price
    • Retractable Lip Liner (Dark Red) $4.50: Fun Fact: the MAC makeup artist couldn’t believe I was wearing this lipliner – she thought it was a MAC lipstick! So for that reason I’m pretty in love with this, you can wear it alone or under a lipstick and it will last for hours without retouching
    • Matte Lipstick (Butter) $6: This is a very brown looking lipstick that I haven’t felt that I can pull off. However, the formula is not drying so even though it is a matte finish it doesn’t go on chalky over the lips
    • Extra Creamy Round Lipstick (Tea Rose) $4: Again, for $4 you can’t beat NYX lipsticks. This one looks gorgeous over the Nude Pink liner. I prefer this over a liner simply because I don’t find the lipstick to be particularly long-wearing
    • Soft Matte Lip Cream (Sao Paulo & Monte Carlo) $6: If you like a matte lip, I highly recommend these. They go on as a liquid lipstick that quickly dries to a matte finish. The end up wearing as a stain so even when the initial top layer wears off you’ll be left with a good amount of color

  • MAC Whirl Lipliner $16: This may be the most perfect lip liner color I’ve ever owned. It is gorgeous on almost any skin tone and works perfectly if you’re trying for those Kylie Jenner lips. Depending on what lipstick you use the color can go more brown or pink so it’s very versatile. I think this should be a staple in every girl’s lip collection

Lip Swatches! Sorry they’re not in focus, but you get the idea!

  • From top to bottom
    • Sao Paolo
    • Monte Carlo
    • Butter
    • Tea Rose
    • Nude Pink
    • Nude Beige
    • Whirl
    • Dark Red

How excited are you that fall is almost here?!? I cannot get enough — the sweaters, colder weather, the fall colors — it’s all so incredibly gorgeous. Just like fall is my favorite season, fall – inspired makeup is my all-time favorite of life! The warm neutral shades with deeper tones of browns and reds are just fabulous. To start off my Fall Series, I did this look based off of a picture a friend sent to me. The eyes are more cool toned grays with a hint of pink and a dark cranberry lip. Let me tell you… this lip color is definitely something I’d consider dying for.

  • Okay ladies, as always the most important part of starting face makeup is using a primer! I’ve decided the Lorac POREfection Mattifying Face Primer is my favorite. It’s so smooth and really makes a huge difference in the application and longevity of your makeup.
  • To get a flawless foundation, I used my Chanel Perfection Lumiere in shade 40 Beige. For this look I wanted something that was very matte because the eyes and lips are already so dramatic.
  • Under my eyes I used MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC20. To keep it all in place, I used Bared Minerals Well-Rested powder, and as always I set my whole face with a loose powder.
  • For a little bit of a contour, I went in with Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer and dusted that just under my cheekbones.

  • Starting with the eyes, I grabbed Maybelline Color Tattoo in 35 Tough as Taupe. This is going to act as the base for our eyeshadow and give the eyelid a little more depth. By no means does this have to look pretty or even blended out yet, so don’t worry if you look a little weird.

  • Next, taking a fluffy brush and any cool grey/brown color, blend out the edges of the base. (I used NYX eyeshadow in Bare my Soul) I took the color up pretty far, you want to make sure you’re able to see it when you’re looking straight forward.

  • Picking up two deeper toned grays, one matte and one shimmer, I mixed the two together and repeated the same blending process. You want to lightly go over the lid but try to keep it lighter than the crease. I used Lorac shadows Cool Gray and Chrome for this step

IMG_6414 IMG_6413IMG_6419

  • For the last shadow, I used a soft pink toward the tear duct area. This just lightens up the eye and brings a tiny bit of color so the whole eye isn’t too boring. IMG_6420

DSC_1578 DSC_1579

  • To thicken the lash line the tiniest bit, add a THIN line of black eyeliner. This will make the lashes look fuller and hide the band of the false lashes if you choose to add them.

  • SERIOUSLY OBSESSED with adding fake eyelashes to my looks now. It’s like a whole new world has opened up and I’ve been gifted with bigger, sexier eyes. Might be a little dramatic, but hey, don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it okay? I just cut up some Eyelure Naturalites and put them towards the outer part of my eye.

DSC_1594 DSC_1599

  • You could totally stop here and have a gorgeous eye look, but we’re gonna get a little crazy from here on out. Take any black eyeliner and put it in your waterline and right below your lashes. Then with either one of the grey shades you used on the eye, smoke out the bottom lash line as far as you’d like. (It’s not pictured, but make sure you put mascara on your bottom lashes! Without it, they will get completely lost in the eyeshadow as they are in the picture on the right.)

  • Now for the lips! With a dark red lipliner, like NYX liner in Dark Red, outline your lips and fill them in just a little bit.

  • For this illusion to work, you want to make sure your lip liner is a shade or two darker than the actual lipstick. If you’ve filled in a little of your lips as above, you shouldn’t have any problems with the gradation from dark to light(er). I used NYX lipstick in Chaos which is a gorgeous deep cranberry color.

  • If you want an even more dramatic look, you can add any deep burgundy or even black eyeshadow color towards the outer corners. If you do this you really need to blend and go over with the dark red color. The subtle transition from red to the other color will not look good if you do not constantly work on creating a seamless transition.

DSC_1622  DSC_1641

Here’s the completed look! I hope you guys love it just half as much as I do! Remember, you can always customize the look to fit your style! If you don’t want this dramatic of an eye, skip the shadow on the lower lash line! And if you’d rather have a lighter lip, a light pink would look gorgeous and bring out the pop of pink in the eyes!

I also created an Instagram specifically for my makeup, so if you’d like to follow it the name is alexisdecarufel_makeup 🙂 Thanks so much for reading, let me know what you think!
